This picture was taken at a place called “The Strip District” , a one-half square mile area just outside of downtown Pittsburgh, PA. There’s a variety of retail produce and ethnic food stores, along with restaurants, coffee shops and sidewalk vendors. As you can see in the picture, black and gold are the flavor of the day.
In Pittsburgh during this time of year, actually from July when training camp opens, thru January during the playoffs, the vast majority here, including me, gear up for Pittsburgh Steeler football. It’s practically a religion in Western Pennsylvania. I remember hearing former Steeler great, Joe Greene, sum it up best when he said in his Hall of Fame induction speech, “If it’s 1 o’clock on a Sunday afternoon and you’re not at the Steeler game, you’re in the wrong damn place.” That’s what “everyday life” is like around here during football season. It’s a fun time to live in Pittsburgh.
Was “Mean” Joe Greene drinking a Coke when he made that comment at the HOF induction? Liked your post, the shot was nice, but the narrative even better.
HaHa, I don’t think so but that might have been a nice touch…thanks for the comment.
